3(4 + 2y) + 2y = 8
12 + 6y + 2y = 8
8y = 8 - 12
8y = -4
y = -4/8
y = -1/2

x = 4 + 2y
x = 4 + 2(-1/2)
x = 4 + (-2/2)
x = 4 + (-1)
x = 4 - 1
x = 3
